Less than 48 hours after a hard-fought win against WMU, the Wolverines were back in action in Ann Arbor as they battled a much-improved CMU club to a 0-0 draw. The line-up for the Wolverines looked a little different too, with several players either out for the match or favoring injuries that have been picked-up since the season began. This, along with the unrelenting downpour and the poor field conditions, forced Michigan into a game plan that was unfamiliar to them.
Nevertheless, there were moments of technical and tactical brilliance and what few chances the Wolverines were able to create made for an exciting match. Midway through the second half, and about 30 yards from goal, graduate student midfielder Alen Cisija sent a free-kick sailing just over the crossbar. Shortly after, senior forward, Ian Armstrong blasted the ball into the goal from the top of 6 yard box only to have the goal called back due to a foul against the Wolverines on the play.
In the end, neither team could break the deadlock and the final whistle blew to end the goalless affair.
Michigan now looks forward to the next three days to prepare for their next match on Thursday, September 25 against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Remember, you can always get updates on UMMCS team by following us on Twitter, Facebook, or checking back here.
